Wow! One of my fav izakayas in Japan is Watami Izakaya (和民居酒屋), and now it's available at ION Orchard (as well as at Central Mall (Clarke Quay) in September 2009).

Well, last I heard, Watami Singapore does not claim to be an "Izakaya".

It called itself an "Isyokuya".

Anyway, I've been to both Watami and Tsubohachi.
So far, food quality is pretty much on par.
Watami has better drink selections, and I like it that they don't charge for 茶. Watami is also sliiightly cheaper.

Lunch set - Saba Yaki Teisyoku (Fish, Rice, Tofu, Miso Soup, Small Salad) + 1 scoop chocolate ice-cream (smallish) for $13.90 (tax incl.).

For teisyoku though, Ootya is still better imho

I watched the local tako-meisters making takoyaki @ Tsukiji Gindako.
