Introduction:
"Mason here. I used to be involved in the Japanese community, traveled all over Japan, took courses at OJLS and Carleton U. Haven't had much opportunity to use my skills in years. Hopefully this is one avenue that'll get me back into the fray."
Have you ever lived in, worked in, or visited Japan?
"Visited Japan twice for extended stays. Mostly as vacations on my own dime. The purpose was just to visit friends and travel all over Honshuu to experience as much as possible. "
What level of Japanese do you think you speak?
"I used to be at an intermediate level. That was 7 years ago. I'm pretty rusty now but can get by in basic conversation. However I've forgotten most of the kanji I used to know. Hopefully I won't need it."

"Great way to meet fellow aficionados of Japanese language and culture. I understand some meetings have more emphasis on language practice while other meetings end up focusing on sharing stories. Either way it's great. Even so I was discussing with some members the possibility of doing a more academic spin-off group. It would be for the strict purpose of just practicing Japanese conversation. Nothing more. It doesn't necessarily have to be pairing ups of native Japanese & Canadians. Even practicing with another Canadian at the same level can work. As long as everyone adheres to a rule that English/French must be kept to a minimum. It wouldn't be in competition with the OJLM group, but rather a side project. But this is just talk at this point. I'd attend more OJLMeetups to see if something like this would be needed at all."
