 n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Wikipedia\, the free encyclopedia:\n\nkebana (&#29983\;&#
12369\;&#33457\;\, Ikebana? "arranged flower") is the Japanese art of flowe
 r arrangement\, also known as kad&#333\; (&#33775\;&#36947\;\, kad&#333\;?
the "way of flowers").\n\nIn contrast to the massing of blooms typical of f
lower arrangement in western countries\, Japanese flower arrangement is bas
ed on the line of twigs and/or leaves\, filled in with a small number of bl
ooms. The container is also a key element of the composition. The structure
of a Japanese flower arrangement is based on a scalene triangle delineated
by three main points\, usually twigs\, considered in some schools to symbo
lize heaven\, earth\, and man and in others sun\, moon and earth.\n\nIkeban
a\, one of the traditional arts of Japan\, has been practiced for more than
600 years. It developed from the Buddhist ritual of offering flowers to th
e spirits of the dead. By the middle of the fifteenth century\, with the em
ergence of the first classical styles\, Ikebana achieved the status of an a
rt form independent of its religious origins\, though it continued to retai
n strong symbolic and philosophical overtones. The first teachers and stude
nts were priests and members of the nobility. However\, as time passed\, ma
ny different schools arose\, styles changed\, and Ikebana came to be practi
ced at all levels of Japanese society.\n\nSyracuse\, NY 13202 - USA\n\nSat
