Unfortunately I have to move this date because of a conflict- my apologies. I am shifting it to Friday night and picking movie night, as it seems to be the most popular item and we haven't done something like that before. I am recommending either Shall we Dance (Japanese version), Lost in Translation or Last Samurai. Let me know if you have any other ideas. I have two TV's both able to show Japanese movies, so we can always have two movies running concurrently. Ron

Hi Everyone! The last meetup yesterday was a great success! I am looking to setup our next meeting and am open to ideas. I liked the park meet up at Wickham Park, but also thought that we may want to head back to a restaurant again, considering there is a new one that opened in West Hartford. I have put the restaurant up as a temporary suggestion. Send me your thoughts as a to what you would like to do and I will solidify the day and time in the next two weeks. Best regards, Ron

As a suggestion from our last meet-up, we are looking to have a Gyoza making and eating party! Venue will probably be at someone's house, volunteer's welcome! Gyoza is the fried dumplings that we usually get as appetizers at a Japanese restaurant. They come in many flavors in Japan as opposed to the usual pork ones we get here in the states. I am hoping we can make two or three kinds depending on people's tastes. Suggestions on types would be appreciated. Initial thoughts are shrimp, Nira (chinese garlic)/vegetarian and pork. Look forward to seeing you all there! Ron

Back by popular demand, a Spring Meetup is in the making. Suggestions back seemed to indicate that an outdoor venue would be best. I have suggested going to Wickham Park for our Meetup. It is $5 per car to enter the facility. We can have a picnic outside, bring a blanket, etc and food and drink to your preference. The ideal is if everyone makes a dish and brings it with them. In that way we can take it easy, eat, drink and be merry. Let me know if this works for everyone, by RSVPing Yes or No. If we can't get enough folks then I will change the venue to a restaurant. Please RSVP by April 28th. Ron UPDATE: http://www.wickhampa rk.org http://www.wickhampa rk.org/images/wickha m_map.pdf We will meet at the Oriental Garden area Carlos

Hi Everyone! Akemashite Omedetou! I am setting up a meeting at Sakura Garden in South Windsor's Evergreen Walk. It's been awhile since our last meeting; sorry about that! I figured we could try out the relatively new venue. Looking forward to seeing you all! Mosugu Harudesune! Ron

Thought this would be a fun event for all. Check it out. If you go to the web link, you have to scroll about half way down the page. Here is another good link - http://www.zvents.co m/hartford-ct/events /show/83641715-8th-a nnual-dragon-boat-ra ces-and The Dragon Boat Races and Asian Festival balances colorful and competitive Dragon Boat races with Asian entertainment, food, and culture. Start the day with the ancient Chinese art of Dragon Dancing as dancers lead the paddlers to boats decorated with Dragon heads and tails. See Chinese dancing, Japanese drumming, martial arts and other Asian arts. Racing begins at 8am and ntertainment begins at 10 a.m. The event has a mixed asian theme, but has Japanese drums at least, so it should prove interesting. I'll be bringing my whole family around 1pm. Ron

It looks like the best option for us is to meet at a restaurant and then to bring these type of lessons there for a more conversational back and forth. More folks appear interested in that type of activity. At that time we will conduct a survey and see what folks want to do for the next meet up and so on. Toward that end, I am recommending the new restaurant, "Sake Cafe - Japanese Hibachi and Sushi Bar" in Wethersfield as our next meeting place. Ron

Mosugunatsudesune! Soon it will be summer! Carlos has brought an idea to the table: Lets have a Yakiniku Party! Yakiniku, in its simplest terms, is simply cooked meat! Any kind is fine. Usually you also cook vegetables as well as meat over a bed of coals on a small grill. It is a lot of fun and always tasty. What I am looking for are suggestions on timing as well as location. Perhaps it would make sense to have this event at someone's home. At a park may be a bit more difficult but if anyone has suggestions in that direction or any other, please bring them forward. I will put a suggested date out there to get things rolling but we may change it depending on ability to attend. If you could also take the time to reply to the questions with the email, that would be great. I am trying to get some consensus on a few topics about Japan/the Japanese and work those into our meetups. Best regards and talk to you all soon, Ron
