Thought this would be a fun event for all. Check it out. If you go to the web link, you have to scroll about half way down the page. Here is another good link - http://www.zvents.com...

The Dragon Boat Races and Asian Festival balances colorful and competitive Dragon Boat races with Asian entertainment, food, and culture. Start the day with the ancient Chinese art of Dragon Dancing as dancers lead the paddlers to boats decorated with Dragon heads and tails. See Chinese dancing, Japanese drumming, martial arts and other Asian arts. Racing begins at 8am and ntertainment begins at 10 a.m.

The event has a mixed asian theme, but has Japanese drums at least, so it should prove interesting. I'll be bringing my whole family around 1pm.

From what I understand they are racing in the morning and you are able to look at the boats throughout the day, mored at the dock.

Does anyone know if the boat races will still be happening at 1pm?

This event was a lot of fun. The main event was Dragon Boat Racing, which was a lot of fun to watch happening on the CT River. Then came the Japanese Taiko performance. It was fantastic! What was really fun was that the Japanese drummers, male and female, let kids and adults on stage to try their hand at the drums as well as answer questions. The performers were fluent in Japanese and English so it was easy to ask questions in any format. My kids loved it! After the Taiko, there was a funny skit performed by three gaijin/nihongasukiamericajin? that was just hilarious. It was based on the warring states period, a truly interesting time in Japanese history, and the comedic recreation of events was gut busting. I'll make sure to keep my eyes open for next year's event!

The event was fun, but I wished I'd brought my sun-umbrella. Not a lot of shade was had. I successfully met up with Ron and his wife, (correct me if I get it wrong Ron) Makiko, at the upper stage. We watched East Winds, Inc perform. The performers allowed the kids, and even me, beat a few licks on the drums! Then I saw a few of the dragon boat races, where Ron got to surprise a Japanese native with his linguistics. Next thing on the list of must see was the Twin Dragons Martial Arts performance. Good to see that even martial artists have great sense of humor! Wished I got to see more JIG members but I am sure we just missed each other in passing. btw Ron here is link to quiz I took. http://www.okcupi... I was correct, my result is Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
